<title>Despite Ups, Downs Candidate Robinson Kept Fighting</title>
    <description>Link to full article here.

BOSTON -- Jack E. Robinson got all his signatures in to run for Sen. Ted Kennedy's open Senate seat just in the nick of time.

NewsCenter
5's Liz Brunner reported that even though the Republican has run in
three unsuccessful major political races in the past nine years, U.S.
Senate, Secretary of State and Congress, he said this time, it's
different.

"My mother always told me if at first you don't
succeed, try, try, try again. But this time, we're in it to win it. My
prior races were merely feeling my oats, so to speak, learning the
ropes. Now, were in it to win it," Robinson said.

Robinson said
he's older and wiser now. The 49-year-old was born in Roxbury. He
recently toured his childhood home and remembered his eight generations
of Republican roots.

"Back
to the founding of the Republican party in 1860. My mother actually ran
for state representative in Roxbury back in the late 1950s," Robinson
said.

Robinson attended North Field Mount Herman High School.

"Jack was a great kid in high school. He was very gregarious. He was a practical joker," Robinson's friend, Drew Dolben, said.

Dolben and Robinson both lived in Gould Hall at Mount Herman.

"It gave Jack an opportunity, as well as myself and other students, a chance to see people from all walks of life," Dolben said.

Robinson fondly remembers eight summers at Camp Beckett in the Berkshires as the best years of his life.

In the summer of 1973, Robinson was on the beach on Martha's Vineyard and made his movie debut in "Jaws."

"Steven
Spielberg said, 'Hey, you kids -- want to be extras in the movie I'm
shooting?' We said, 'Sure,' so you can see me in the Fourth of July
beach scene," Robinson said.

Robinson has degrees from Brown University and Harvard and has started and run businesses from airlines to cell phone companies.

"What did you learn about yourself from these experiences?" Brunner asked.

"The
thing I've learned the most is that over the years, the last 20, 25
years of my private sector experience, is that you have ups and downs,
many more downs than ups, but you have to keep coming back, keep on
fighting," Robinson said.

Robinson said he's very proud to serve as a commodore in the U.S. Navy League, and is a booster for the US Naval Academy.</description>

<title>Republican Senate Candidates Spar Over Health Care</title>
<description>Partial coverage of today's Boston Chamber of Commerce Forum.

BOSTON — The two Republican candidates for U.S. Senate debated
before the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce on Monday morning. The
two disagreed on whether Massachusetts is a good example for national
health care reform.
State Sen. Scott Brown praised the state for providing
near-universal coverage. But Duxbury attorney Jack E. Robinson said the
law has failed to control costs.
The two also sparred over how to stimulate the economy. Robinson wants to nix the capital gains tax next year.
“Millions of jobs will be created, we’ll be out of the recession in my opinion by the end of next year,” he said.
Brown called that unrealistic. “But reducing the payroll tax,
certainly, and doing targeted tax breaks, is certainly the way to go,”
he said.
The two Republicans agreed on wanting to simplify regulation of small businesses.

    <title>Robinson Questions Brown's Commitment to Cutting Taxes</title>
<description>Robinson Questions Brown’s Commitment to Cutting Taxes
Brown Admits Working to Override Proposition 2 ½

BOSTON, MA (November 17, 2009) – State Senator Scott Brown claims to have never supported a tax increase in Massachusetts. However, in a November 16th interview aired on NECN, Brown acknowledged that he voted to raise taxes by supporting a Proposition 2 ½ override in Wrentham.
Republican Jack E. Robinson is the only candidate in the U.S. Senate race who has signed the “No New Tax Pledge” offered by Grover Norquist’s Americans for Tax Reform.
“My opponent’s promise to never vote to raise taxes is now highly suspect,” said Robinson. “No wonder he refuses to sign the no-tax pledge.”
“Given Brown’s pro-tax record, I wonder how he could attend the Citizens for Limited Taxation brunch last Sunday in Randolph with a straight face,” said Alleigh Marré, Robinson campaign spokeswoman.
“Unlike my opponent, I am committed to ensuring that not only are there no new taxes, but also to providing Massachusetts with targeted tax cuts that will promote business investment and create jobs,” said Robinson.

    <title>Jack E. Robinson Calls for Cease-Fire in Afghanistan, Peace-Talks in Paris</title>
<description>Republican Senate candidate Jack E. Robinson today called for an
immediate cease-fire in Afghanistan, coupled with an invitation to
“all-party” peace talks in Paris that would include the Karzai
government, the Abdullah faction, the Taliban, and Pakistan.

“If Mandela and de Klerk can negotiate, if the IRA and the British can
negotiate, if Israel and her Arab neighbors can negotiate, then
certainly Karzai, Abdullah, the Taliban and Pakistan can negotiate,”
said Robinson. “I see this as the best path to a true Peace with Honor
for all parties – especially the United States and her NATO allies.”

Robinson said that attending Veteran’s Day services at Harvard
yesterday and seeing all of the brave young men and women in uniform,
coupled with the tragic news of yet another Massachusetts soldier
killed in Afghanistan [Army Spec. Benjamin Sherman, 21, of Plymouth],
brought home to him the "immediate need for a peaceful solution in
Afghanistan."

Robinson’s plan calls for offering the Taliban a cease-fire deadline of
Friday, December 18th , which marks the Muslim New Year. If accepted,
the peace talks would be convened by January 15th in Paris or any other
neutral location acceptable to all parties.

According to a Robinson press release, all issues would be on the table
at the peace talks, including the possibility of an “all-party”
government in Afghanistan. No additional U.S. or NATO troops would be
sent to Afghanistan while the talks are pending.

“Given his being held in high esteem throughout the world, perhaps
President Obama himself would be the best person to mediate these
talks, as Teddy Roosevelt successfully did in 1905 to end the
Russo-Japanese War and for which he won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1906,”
said Robinson. “Now that the President has ordered his advisers to
bring him new options on Afghanistan, perhaps this is one of the
options that can be considered.”

Robinson spokeswoman Alleigh Marré said Robinson's proposal, "is based
on his discussions with several experts in this area, as well as his
realization that a negotiated settlement is clearly the best path to
peace in the region.” She added, “and by inviting Pakistan to the
talks, it’s quite possible that many of Pakistan’s current security
problems can be solved as well.”

    <title>Alex Beam: On Jack Robinson</title>
<description>If you are Scott Brown, Republican candidate for Ted Kennedy's Senate seat, hell is someone named Jack E. Robinson.

Scott Brown, a.k.a. the Man from Jordache, is a
jocky, reasonably coherent state senator who until just a few days ago
was cruising unopposed to the GOP Senate nomination. As the only
Republican, Brown was getting some decent media play, and his story
fleshes out nicely. He is a triathlete, an officer in the National
Guard, a former Jordache jeans model, and husband of an attractive TV
reporter, Gail Huff of Channel 5. His daughter is singer Ayla Brown,
who wowed local teens with her "American Idol" appearances in 2006.
Brown was going to be this year's Joe Malone, the un-feisty,
gracious loser setting himself up for future statewide contests by
sliding his head under the guillotine of the Democratic machine. In
1988, the young Malone won the heart of the Massachusetts political
establishment by not running too hard against pre-turnaround (read:
pre-Vicki) Teddy. Malone refrained from alluding to the senator's
embarrassing indelicacies, and two years later became the treasurer of
the Commonwealth.
Suddenly, Robinson, a Duxbury attorney, has jumped into the race,
and Brown looks none too happy about it. At a League of Women Voters
debate on Sunday, Brown did his best to ignore Robinson, preferring to
engage the Democrats instead. But Robinson, who has an erratic track
record in electoral politics, refused to be ignored. He can be
alternately wacky -- he suggested someone audit the Federal Reserve,
unclear who -- and razor-sharp. After Brown gassed on about his desire
to serve on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Robinson invoked
the Senate's arcane "same-state" rule: John Kerry is already on Foreign
Relations, which closes it to other Bay Staters.
In his closing statement, Robinson
challenged Brown to more debates, a challenge Brown stolidly ignored.
The next day, Robinson issued a press release saying "Scott Brown is
afraid to debate me one-on-one."
